ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said Monday that his party was not against creation of new provinces and added that any decision in this regard should be in accordance with country's constitution.
“There is a way in the Constitution with regard to formation of new provinces which should be followed,” he said speaking on a point of order in the National Assembly.
Chaudhry Nisar said that the Punjab chief minister had not said that Karachi be made a separate province and that his statement had been misinterpreted.
He said that the affairs of the august House were not being run in a democratic manner and added that the government was deviating from its policy of reconciliation.
He said it was the right of Opposition to highlight people's problems and the government was bound to give realistic answers to its questions. He alleged the ministers were not taking the House in confidence on important matters.
The Leader of the Opposition said that some politicians who are not in the Parliament were staging sit-ins, adding that he knew at whose behest they were doing so. He said that the PML-N had never tried to destabilize the government.
He said that levy tax upon petroleum products was affecting the common man. He said that the government should allow a private sports channel to air its programmes from the country.
The prime minister should intervene into the matter and “as a good will gesture” the services of that channel should be restored, he said.
