KARACHI, April 24: A young man was found shot dead near the Northern Bypass on Sunday within the remit of the Surjani Town police station, officials said.

They added that the victim, later identified as 30-year-old Qareebullah, was found shot dead in bushes near the Quetta-Swat Hotel.

“The body bore 10 gunshot wounds though no spent bullet casing or blood was found at the place,” said an official at the Surjani Town police station. He said that the evidences collected indicated that the victim was murdered somewhere else and his corpse was dumped there.

The body was later shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination, the official added.

The police said they were not sure if it was a targeted killing or was motivated by personal enmity. “At this stage we cannot rule out either,” said ASI Ghulam Husain. He said the victim hailed from Swat. However, he said further investigation would help determine the facts.

Till the filing of this report the FIR of the incident was not registered.

In a Defence area, a young man was found dead under a truckload of gravel.

Police said Jameel, 17, was sleeping outside an under-construction house in Zulfiqar Street when a dumper truck unloaded gravel there early Sunday morning.

The truck driver claimed he did not notice the young man's presence due to darkness.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medico-legal formalities.

Later, it was handed over to the victim's heirs, the police said.

Road accident

A young man was killed and another injured in a hit-and-run road accident near Gurumandir, police and rescue sources said.

According to the rescue sources, 18-year-old Sajid and his 20-year-old friend Rizwan were on their way on a motorbike when they were knocked down by a fast-moving bus of route 2-D within the remit of the Jamshed Quarters police station.

A duty officer at the police station said that Sajid died on the spot while Rizwan suffered injures. The injured victim was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

He said the bus driver sped away following the accident.
