TAXILA, Oct 17: Ghulam Sarwar Khan, former provincial minister and newly elected MNA from NA-53, may re-join the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Well-informed source confirmed that Mr Khan, who had left the party before the October 10 elections, and the party leaders are in close connect and may ink an agreement in this connection.
The sources said the party’s officer bearers who had played major role in his parting ways with the PPP and those who had contested against him would be expelled from the party.
TOKEN STRIKE: Teachers of government schools observed a token strike against the government’s policy to constitute boards of governors in the educational institutions.
The Punjab Teachers Association (PTA), Rawalpindi chapter, had given a call for the token strike. A large number of the teachers took part in the strike and boycotted classes for two hours.
The teachers also held a meeting and expressed their concern on the government’s policy and said it would deprive majority of people of their basic right to avail education facility at cheaper rate.
They also rejected the constitution of board of governors in the educational institutions. They also condemned the policy of the teacher’s appointment on contract basis, which according to them would generate a sense of insecurity amongst them.
They demanded that the government should allocate at least six per cent of the GNP for the educational sector against the existing 2.55 per cent.
RIGGING: Dr Skindar Hayat Khan, a candidate PPP candidate for NA- 54, Hassanabdal, has accused the district Nazim for alleged rigging in the constituency.
He said the district administration had used the government machinery to help the Nazim’s daughter get elected.
He said the irregularities were brought to the notice of the concerned authorities but no action was taken. The Punjab governor also visited the district and announced development plans to get public support for the PML (QA) candidate, he added.
He called upon the election commission to take notice of the alleged rigging.
