ISLAMABAD Oct 17: The president of National Awami Party Pakistan (NAPP) and a leader of National Alliance, Ajmal Khattak, has dispelled the impression that his party was mulling on merger with Awami National Party.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, Mr Khattak said: “We are working for forging unity among Pakhtoons in the first place then we will concentrate on national unity and third phase will be the unity of democratic forces of the country.”

“I have set this process in motion by meeting Wali Khan thereby starting it from home,” he said adding “we are working for a national reconciliation and Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal is not out of this process.”

He attributed the MMA electoral triumph to expression of no confidence against the pro-American policies and said if the US failed to change its attitude in dealing with so-called terrorism, its own people will uprise against her.

When asked to comment on conduct of the October 10 polls, Khattak said, “in my opinion the elections were held quite orderly but there were rampant reports of manipulation through administration at various places”. He cited the example of some constituencies in Tribal belt as well as one of his party stalwart Arbab Ayub Jan where votes of dead were also polled.
