PESHAWAR, Oct 17: Nowshera is one of the high risk areas of polio attack as one new case of polio has been reported in new Abba Khel, an official told a meeting regarding the arrangements to be taken for polio eradication at district Nowshera, chaired by DCO Laeequr Rehman on Thursday.
The meeting was told that special round of National Immunisation Days (NIDs) would soon be carried out in the district to make consolidated efforts besides launching a drive to make the people aware of the need to immunize their children against the disease.
The meeting was also informed that 620 polio teams had been organized to give polio vaccine drops to about 260,000 children in Nowshera district. The second round of the NIDs would be carried out on Oct 22, 23 and 24. Out of these teams, 553 teams had been assigned mobile duty. Fifty-six teams would work at fixed centres while 11 teams would immunize children from one to five years age against polio at bus stands and railway stations.
The meeting also stressed upon the parents to immunize their children up to five years against polio. The only cure of polio was to give children polio drops in five consecutive rounds, the meeting said.
CRISIS MANAGEMENT CENTRE: The people have been asked to approach the provincial crisis management centre (PCMC) and lodge their complaints regarding crimes to ensure speedy and effective action.
An official press release said that people were reluctant to lodge complaints against kidnapping for ransom, car snatching and other heinous crimes to police for safety and security reasons. The police was also sometimes reluctant to register an FIR.
It asked all affected persons to report such cases to the PCMC, home and tribal affairs department, Peshawar Cantt, on the following telephone and fax numbers for initiating remedial measures at appropriate level for doing justice.
The identity of individuals passing such information would not be disclosed to any person or agency, the press release added.
