MITHI, Oct 17: The residents of Mithi have expressed concern over “flawed method” of wheat distribution among the drought-hit people of the town.

Scores of the residents of different colonies of Mithi, including women and elderly men, complained on Wednesday that the concerned authorities had not prepared a proper programme for the wheat distribution.

They alleged that some influential people had managed to get several ration cards issued to one family and through this irregularity, a single family had received 10 bags of wheat. On the other, they added, numerous deserving families had not yet received wheat.

According to the official procedure, a deserving family is to receive a wheat bag of 100kgs.

Meanwhile, some of the recipients of the wheat complained that the wheat bags they had received were short in weight from five to 15kgs.

Inquiry demanded: A member of the Mithi union council has called for judicious distribution of relief wheat sent for free distribution among the poor.

He also urged the Sindh governor, the chief secretary and other relief agencies to take prompt action against people responsible for misappropriating the relief.

Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, Saroopchang Menwani, accused the town administration, including the Nazim and the Naib Nazim, of issuing fake ration cards.

They said numerous poor residents of the area were deprived of the relief.

He said they were waiting for free distribution of wheat at the government warehouse for the last couple of days.

Menwani called for initiating a thorough inquiry into the matter besides streamlining the flawed wheat distribution system.
