ISLAMABAD, Oct 16: The ministry of women development, social welfare and special education has constituted the National Expert Committee (NEC) to draft the national plan of action and policy for the children.

An official statement said the first meeting of the NEC took place on Wednesday, which was chaired by the federal secretary, Mrs Parveen Qadir Agha.

The committee reviewed the progress made in national and regional level consultations for the preparation of a plan of action for the children.

The secretary told the participants that during the special session on children held in May, new targets and goals were set in the shape of a document called “A world fit for children”.

This commitment has necessitated development of a new policy and plan of action for the next decade (2002-2012), she added.

She asked the expert group to start with an in-depth analysis of the progress made so far in the issue, while keeping in mind the shortcomings of the previous policies.

She said the new plan should be developed through a participatory and decentralized process.
