HYDERABAD, Nov 13: The central committee of Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party at a meeting held here on Tuesday took strong exception to the claim of Punjab province over 17 Dehs of taluka Obauro, district Ghotki, and decided to support the struggle of the people of Ghotki district against the ongoing survey in this regard.
The chairman of the party Dr Qadir Magsi presided over the meeting which warned that no tempering with the geography of Sindh will be tolerated and the STPP with its Ponam allies will resist any such move by launching protest throughout the province.
The meeting expressed grave concern over the influx of Afghan refugees and other outsiders into Sindh and resolved to launch a movement after Ramazan to expel the illegal settlers from Sindh.
It appealed to the people not to rent out any house or shop to any Afghan national in any city or town of the province.
It was also resolved that the party will launch mass contact movement from December to mobilize public opinion on the burning issues of Sindh.
The meeting decided to hold a seminar in Karachi in January next year to discuss international situation and major problems confronting Sindh and to stage rally in Hyderabad in the same month to highlight the problems of Sindh.
It also decided to publish monthly party organ with the name of Inqalabi Waat (the path of revolution) and calendar identifying the Sindh martyrs’ days.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr Qadir Magsi said that the people of Sindh will sacrifice their lives but will not allow the transfer of 17 Dehs of Obauro to Punjab.
He said that under a planned conspiracy Punjab wanted to take over 67,000 acres of rich agricultural land of Sindh, 10,000 acres of forests and an important feeder of Ghotki through a fake survey.
He accused Punjab of expansionism and said that it had already taken over the control of Seraiki belt and the natural resources of Sindh.
The STPP chief warned that the people of Sindh were conscious of their rights and they will fight for every inch of their land.
He regretted that some people in Sindh were helping Punjab conduct the fake survey. He also accused the Sindh government of maintaining criminal silence over such a sensitive issue. He asked: “Who has given powers to the Mukhtiarkars of Obauro to handover the land of Sindh to Punjab?”
He demanded that the survey should be immediately stopped and rejected the claim of Punjab over the land of Sindh.
The STPP chief called upon the people of Sindh to forget their differences and unite on one platform to resist any such move.
HUNGER STRIKE: Nine activists of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) Kotri staged hunger strike outside the Hyderabad press club here on Tuesday in protest against the alleged torture of political prisoners in central prison Hyderabad and for the release of party chairman Basheer Khan Qureshi.
Led by Abdul Ghani Mangrio, the protesters demanded that torture on Zafar Korejo, Akhtar Hussain Mallano, Sikandar Ansari and other political prisoners should be stopped and they should be allowed to meet visitors.
They also demanded the immediate release of Basheer Qureshi and withdrawal of cases against him.
Meanwhile, the central leaders of JSQM, Shabbir Jamali, Abdul Sattar Nizamani and Zulfiqar Panhwar alleged that ever since the posting of Afzal Awan, son of Sarwar Awan, as superintendent of central jail Hyderabad, atrocities had been unleashed against the political prisoners in the prison.
They said in a joint statement that a conspiracy had been hatched to eliminate Zafar Korejo and Sikandar Ansari.
They demanded that the prison superintendent should be removed, the ongoing operation in the jail should be stopped and the JSQM leaders confined in the jail should be given facilities according to law.
