KARACHI, Nov 13: An alleged bandit was shot dead in what police claimed in an exchange of fire at Seaview in Clifton on Tuesday. His accomplice, however, escaped with the loot.

Police said two bandits entered the bungalow of Imran Beg, a businessman, in Darakhshan, Clifton. The bandits held Imran’s wife and his three sons as hostage at gunpoint, collected Rs90,000 and jewellery worth Rs150,000. Watchman Yusuf, who saw the bandits entering the house, informed police.

As the bandits left the house, police reached the spot and chased the bandits which ensued an exchange of fire on the main road at Sea View near the Darakhshan police checkpost. As a result of the alleged exchange of fire between police and the bandits, one of the bandits, identified as Tariq Javed, hailing from Chiniot, suffered a fatal bullet wound and died on the spot.

His accomplice, whose identity could not be ascertained, escaped with the loot. Police said the bandits had also attempted to enter another bungalow whose owner also informed them bout their presence in the locality.

ACCIDENT: A man died in a road accident in Nazimabad. Police said Mohammed Aslam, aged 35, was run over by a bus. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police claimed to have arrested the driver of the bus and impounded the vehicle.

KILLED: An unidentified man, with stab injuries on his body, was found dead in a stormwater drain in Gadap. Police said the body was lying in a stormwater drain situated between the Edhi Home and the Sui Southern Gas office in Gadap. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem. It had been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification, police said.

DROWNED: Two bodies were recovered from the sea.

Police said the body of a young man was recovered from the sea off Keamari. He was later identified as Shahzad, aged 31, from the national identity card found in his pocket. The drowning victim resided in Malir. However, it was not yet clear whether the man drowned or he committed suicide, police said.

The other body was fished out of the sea near the KPT berth No 24. The unidentified body was sent to Civil Hospital for autopsy where doctors said the body was several days old. It had been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification, police said.
