KARACHI, April 8: An anti-corruption court on Friday reserved its order on two bail applications of a former chairman of the Pakistan Steel Mills in as much cases.

Mueen Aftab Sheikh along with some other accused has been charged with committing corruption in the PSM.

The accused through his lawyer submitted bail applications. The judge of a special federal anti-corruption court, Karachi, Shaukat Ali Memon, after hearing arguments from both sides reserved the order on both pleas for pronouncement till April 12.

According to the prosecution, the accused in collusion with the then managing director Rasool Bux Pholphoto, director commercial Sameen Asghar and four other accused, including Dewan Abu Obaida Farooqui, Mohammad Dewan Raban Farooqui, Mohammad Rafiq and Ahmed Hussain Javani committed embezzlement in the purchase of long and flat products of the Pakistan Steel during 2008 and 2009 that caused financial losses to the tune of millions of rupees to the Pakistan Steel.

The accused were booked in two case (FIR Nos.17/10 and 18/10) under the Pakistan Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act at the FIA crime circle police station Karachi.

NICL case An anti-corruption court on Friday supplied copies of statements and documents of the case to detained chairman of the National Insurance Company Limited Ayaz Khan Niazi in the land scam case.

The chairman, the executive director (finance) and three general managers of the NICL along with their absconding accomplices have been charged with violating rules in the procurement of 10 acres in a Korangi area in August 2009 which caused huge financial losses to the national exchequer.

The jail authorities produced the suspect before the court on Friday and the copies were provided to him under Section 265-C (supply of statements and documents to the accused) of the criminal procedure code. The court adjourned the hearing till April 22.

The court re-issued production orders of four other suspects who were confined in Lahore in connection with other cases, through the Sindh home department with the direction to produce them on next hearing and also re-issued non-bailable warrants for arrest of six absconders, including two directors of the NICL Amin Qasim Dada and Javed Saeed.

On last hearing, the court issued a notice to a doctor of the JPMC, who had issued the medical certificate to the NICL chief, and directed him to submit the relevant record. The medical officer of the JPMC through his subordinate filed the related documents in the court.

Meanwhile, Mr Niazi filed an application and prayed to the court to allow him to get admission to a private hospital for hydrotherapy as this facility was not available at the JPMC. The court would take up the plea on April 11.
