ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government on Friday decided to establish a ‘Commission for Standard Higher Education ’ to replace the existing Higher Education Commission (HEC). However, the Finance ministry has stopped a Rs7.7 billion installment to the HEC, stating that until the HEC issue has not been resolved, it will not release the funds.

The head of the Implementation Commission for the 18th Amendment, Senator Raza Rabbani said that after the conclusion of HEC, a new department will be established under the name of Commission for Standard Higher Education to replace HEC.

Rabbani also said that there was no purpose anymore maintain the HEC after the 18th Amendment. He said that the relative provinces will allocate the amount to the universities according to the National Financial Commission.
