Usman bowls St Pat’s to victory

KARACHI, Oct 14: A splendid spell of off-spin bowling by Usman Usmani, helped St Patrick’s High School beat traditional rivals St Paul’s High School by four wickets in the inaugural match of the Rev Father Robert D’Silva Golden Jubilee Invitation Inter- school cricket tournament played at NBP Sports Complex here Monday.

St Paul’s, who chose to bat first after winning the toss, were bowled out for 112 in their 25 allotted overs after being strongly placed at 79 for three.

Once opener Shane Fernandes departed after making 35, the rest of the batting line-up collapsed against Usman Usmani, who had figures of five for 18.

S. Salman Bukhari (23) and Uzair Ali Khan (20) were also among the runs.

St Patrick’s, in reply, survived some anxious moments having lost six wickets for 87 runs. However, Usman Usmani (15) and Azad Ali Khan (14) pulled their team through to a narrow victory.

Shalim Shersh two for 19 and S. Salman Bukhari two for 20, bowled best for the losers.

Usman was later named the Man of the Match.

On Tuesday, St Patrick’s High School meet Lecole at 9.30am. and DHA O & A Level take on St Peter’s High School at 1.30pm, both matches will be played at the same venue.
