ISLAMABAD, April 4: A local NGO run by some lawyers has challenged the allotment of two plots worth millions of rupees to a former chief justice of Pakistan in a cooperative housing scheme in the federal capital.

“The apex court has been requested to start accountability of the judiciary and take notice of allotment of two plots to the former chief justice in the housing scheme meant for the employees of the police department,” the petitioner said.

He was of the view that the former chief justice was not eligible to get the plots worth Rs20 million each.

The petitioner also provided a list of other persons who obtained plots in the scheme. They were: Mrs Nusrat Rauf, Maj Nadeem Rafique, Aftab Iqbal Chohan, Awais Akhtar and Maj (retired) Mushtaq Ahmed.

“As one of the plot owners is the then chief justice and the other is the wife of a former CDA chairman, the confidence and trust of the people in judiciary and executive will definitely be restored by implementation of the law equally for all citizens,” the petitioner said.

The CDA cancelled the no-objection certificate (NOC) of NPF and Pakistan Medical Cooperative Housing Society (PMCHS) in E-11 last year after their managements were found involved in violations of the CDA laws and terms and conditions of their NOCs.

The NFP and PMCHS are among the costliest private housing schemes in Islamabad in terms of price of plots. The cost of a 500 square-yard plot in NPF ranges between Rs15 million and Rs20 million and that in PMCHS from Rs10 to Rs15 million.

Six private and cooperative housing schemes are being developed in Sector E-11. They are: NPF, PMCHS, Multi-Professional Cooperative Housing Society, Service Cooperative Housing Society, Federation of Employees Cooperative Housing Society and Ahbab Multi-purpose Cooperative Housing Society.

The managements of NPF and PMCHS have been accused of selling public utility plots.
