SARGODHA, Oct 14: Saddar police have registered a case against three dozen MMA activists including the defeated candidate for NA-67, Shams Naveed Cheema, and his elder brother, ex-MNA Chaudhry Javed Iqbal Cheema, on charges of beating up PML-Q activists at Chak No 103/NB.
PML-Q’s Abid Hussain Awan told the police that the armed MMA activists had also harassed voters at a polling station.
He alleged that they were sitting at their election camp when the accused attacked them and also fired at them. However, nobody was injured.
Saddar police had earlier registered a case against PML-Q’s Chaudhry Farrukh Javed Ghuman, MNA-elect Chaudhry Anwar Ali Cheema and their 19 supporters on charges of attacking Chaudhry Iqbal, who was hospitalized.
JI’s Fareed Ahmed Piracha on Monday called on Chaudhry Iqbal at the DHQ hospital. He criticised the activities of PML-Q outlaws and said that if the police did not arrest the assailants, the MMA would teach them a lesson on its own.
He regretted that the accused party was freely moving around sounding threats to MMA activists. He also criticised the role of police in the matter, who had registered a case against the hospitalized Chaudhry Iqbal.
