SUKKUR: Irregularities alleged

Published October 15, 2002

SUKKUR, Oct 14: The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal candidates from on NA-198 and PS-1 — Maulana Asad Thanvi and Abdul Matin Bandhani, respectively — have thanked the people for voting in their favour.

In a joint press statement, they said that the people, by voting in favour of the MMA, had reposed their confidence in the party besides rejecting their opponents.

They also levelled serious charges of polling irregularities at various polling stations.

They accused their rival, the MNA-elect from NA-198 of polling bogus votes.

They also accused their rival of whisking away ballot boxes besides stating appointment of illiterate women as presiding officers at some polling stations.

They said that they were handed the result on a simple paper, while changing the same on regular result forms.

The seals on the bags, they said, were tampered with and the result was announced after a delay of 27 hours.
