DERA GHAZI KHAN, March 29: PML-Q candidate Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari returned to the National Assembly after defeating PML-N candidate Dr Hafiz Abdul Karim and PPP candidate Shabbir Ahmad Khan Leghari in NA-172 by-polls on Tuesday.

According to unofficial results of 236 out of 260 polling stations, Awais Leghari bagged 57,446 votes, Karim 37,071 and Shabbir 15,720 votes. Turnout remained 25 per cent.

The constituency fell vacant after the death of PML-Q MNA Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari, a former president of Pakistan, in October 2010.
