PESHAWAR, March 28: An additional district and sessions judge on Monday acquitted a person charged with drug pushing as the local police could not prove his involvement in the offence.
The judge, Muneera Abbassi, in her capacity as special judge (control of narcotics), observed that the evidence on record could not connect the accused, Muhammad Naveed Anjum, with the offence.
The accused, a resident of Maqsood Abad on Charsadda Road, was arrested on July 22, 2010, by Faqirabad police. The police alleged that they had stopped a car bearing registration No.AGT 491 Sindh, which was driven by the accused. It was alleged that 15kg charas was recovered from secret cavities of the said car.
The counsel for the accused, Noor Alam Khan, argued that the accused was resident of an area situated on the road from where the police claimed to have arrested him. He stated that the accused was not sitting in the said car and in fact was a passer-by. — Bureau Report
