LAHORE, March 28: Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court on Monday issued a notice on a civil miscellaneous application praying to restrain Malik Husain Mubashar from functioning as vice-chancellor of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) till a final decision on a writ petition against his appointment, pending adjudication with the same court.

Justice Saeed issued notices to the Punjab government and the UHS vice-chancellor along with other respondents for April 20 when the main writ petition will also be taken up by the court.

Tahir Hameed filed the civil miscellaneous application through Advocate Nasir Mehmood Qureshi and submitted that despite a lapse of considerable time, the Punjab government and the secretary health failed to submit their replies.

The counsel said the government had no justification for illegal holding of the office of UHS VC by Malik Husain Mubashar.

He said since a recent scandal of the son of Mr Mubashar had exposed in the media, there was every likelihood that if he was allowed to hold the position of VC, he would influence proceedings before the PMDC, which were to be taken against his son.

Therefore, he prayed that the respondent be restrained from holding the office of the vice-chancellor and pro-vice chancellor of the university be ordered to hold the same office under the law till the final decision on the main writ petition.
