RAWALPINDI, Oct 12: Two young motorcycle riders, on Saturday, snatched a bag, containing Rs800,000, from a person near Citi Bank, Blue Area branch.

According to sources in police, the incident took place when the man, after drawing the amount from the bank, went to a nearby hotel to drink water.

Officials at Kohsar Police Station were of the opinion that the incident was not a genuine theft case. They added that the man, instead of returning to his office, next to the bank building, went to a hotel. “A meticulous person would have gone to his office first to drop the cash, rather than going to a hotel with such a huge amount, simply to drink water,” they maintained.

WEDDING PARTY LOOTED: About 40 members of a wedding party, coming to Rawalpindi from Karachi by Awam Express on Friday, were deprived of gold ornaments, cash and other valuables, after some burglars broke into the “luggage van” of the train despite presence of policemen.

Mohammad Riaz Iqbal, one of the robbery victims, approached the Railway police and authorities concerned after he found 13 suitcases and two cartons opened and clothes scattered in the luggage van, on arriving at Rawalpindi Railway Station.

He told the police that he and his family members were coming to Rawalpindi for his son and nephew’s marriage. He added that the doors of the “luggage van” had been sealed off by the railway authorities in Karachi, and unlocked on arriving Rawalpindi.

According to railway police the burglars broke into the luggage van by tearing apart a wooden wall from the railway guard room and also escaped from the same route.

Surprisingly, the policemen and railway guards on duty did not notice the incident. The police have started investigation into the incident.

THEFT AT UN CLUB: Police have booked two employees of United Nations Club for stealing a UN staffer’s purse, containing $1700.

The UN staffer, Jeane Luchue, in a complaint lodged with the police, claimed that Tariq Masih, a receptionist at the club, and Shakeel Masih, a sanitary worker, had stolen the purse.

“We have arrested the two accused and registered cases against them,” a police official said.
