22 Indian fishermen arrested

KARACHI, March 18: The Maritime Security Agency (MSA) has arrested 22 Indian fishermen and seized their five boats for fishing in Pakistani waters, a spokesperson for the MSA said in a statement issued here on Friday.

On March 17 during a routine patrol, the MSA seized five Indian fishing boats and arrested their 22 crew members for operating inside Pakistani waters.—APP Research lab at KU opened A social research audit laboratory has been inaugurated at the department of sociology of Karachi University.

Karachi University Pro Vice-Chancellor Nasiruddin Khan performed the inauguration, said a university official on Friday.

The laboratory would function under the supervision of the chairperson of the department, Prof Dr Raana Saba Sultan.

The laboratory has been established by the Devolution Trust Community Empowerment, which is an international non-governmental organisation funded by the UNDP.

Prof Raana said that the laboratory was established after Karachi University department of sociology was engaged in research on the role of the local government system.Departments of five other universities in the country also participated in the research project, she said.

She said that the data gathered as a result of the research project had been made available at the laboratory and that would be beneficial for the faculty, students and researchers.

She further stated that a senior faculty member of the department, Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat, and former students of the department had also participated in the research project.—APP

Before the concert, the Pakistan-Australia Cricket World Cup match will be screened on a huge screen.—APP Lecture on literature at Ghalib Library A lecture on “Translations of Ghalib and Iqbal in Japan” to be delivered by Prof Hiroji Kataoka of the Daito Bunka University of Japan will held on Saturday at Ghalib Library in Nazimabad at 5pm.

The lecture has been organised by the Idara-i-Yadgar-i-Ghalib and the Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association, Sindh.

Mushaira on 22nd An international Mushaira is being organised at the Expo Centre here on March 22.

The event will be held under the auspices of the Sakinan-i-Shahar-i-Quaid.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has been invited as the chief guest on the occasion, organisers of the event said on Friday.—APP
