3 gunned down in Haripur
HARIPUR, March 14: Three persons were murdered in different parts. The first murder was reported from Saddar police station where unknown assailant (s) slaughtered a young man and dumped his body in hilly range of Pir Mankay. The identity of the victim, in his 20s, could not be ascertained.
In the second incident Haider Zaman of Jhamra village was shot dead in Hasanabdal area, his son, Akhtar Zaman, told police. He accused Ghulam Fareed and Ahmed Nawaz of killing his father over an old family feud.
In Khanpur area, Amraiz Khan of Rani Wah village was shot dead by Abdul Khaliq and Javed over unknown reasons. —Correspondent
Two killed in Peshawar PESHAWAR, March 14: Two people were killed and three injured in different incidents in Peshawar on Monday.
The first incident took place at Ghari Qamar Din where an Afghan Abdul Haq was gunned down. His son Subhanullah told police his relatives Kohat Khan and Musafar Khan were involved in the murder.
Body of Taj Mohammad was recovered in fields in Opaza area. His father Sardar Khan told police a schoolteacher Seraj Khan had talked to Taj on telephone and called him out of his residence. After some time, he said someone informed him that his son’s body was lying in the fields.
An unidentified person opened indiscriminate fire at Bacha Khan Chowk and wounded three people including Mohammad Iqbal, Shamsher and another passerby on Monday evening.—Bureau Report
‘IDP boy in forces’ custody’ PESHAWAR, March 14: A displaced person of Khyber Agency Lal Behram has alleged that personnel of law-enforcement agencies had picked his brother from Jalozai camp about one and a half year ago and didn’t set him free to date.
Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday Lal Behram said his family had shifted from the tribal region due to the military operation.
“My brother Jamshid Khan (17) was a school student and enrolled on the list of IDPs but police had picked him on Dec 7, 2009 without any reason,” he said, and demanded of the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the matter.—Bureau Report
Police ‘favouring’ accused PESHAWAR, March 14: Imran Ali Shah of Swabi has accused the police of not registering a case about kidnapping of his father and demanded of the IGP to help recover his father.
Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar press club on Monday Imran from Menai area said his father had been missing since Feb 2, 2010 but his business partner Noor Haider was not ready to tell about his whereabouts.
“Mr Haider also threatened to kill me when I refused to vacate my house, which Mr Haider claimed to have purchased from my father at Rs580,000,” said Mr Imran, adding, Mr Haider failed to produce any eyewitness to the deal demanded by a jirga.
He said Topi police were pressuring them not to file murder case against Haider.—Bureau Report
Anti-encroachment drive MARDAN, March 14: A meeting presided over by the Commissioner Mardan Mohammad Adil Khan on Monday decided to launch a drive against the encroachments, traffic mess, overcharging, fake medicines and beverages across the district in next few days.
A special team was formed to supervise the anti-encroachment campaigns in different parts. Mohammad Adil Khan also constituted a committee to take steps for establishing a meat market.
The police were directed to stop the entry of heavy loaded vehicles in the crowded bazaars during daytime, and to take action against non-registered three-wheelers.
Price magistrates were asked to regularly visit bazaars and take action against hoarders and profiteers.—Correspondent
Houses rebuilt SWABI, March 14: The Al-Khidmat Foundation says it has reconstructed 1,200 houses for the flood affected people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and plans to build more in future.
Leaders of the foundation said this while addressing inaugural ceremony of 12 houses at Jahangira on Monday. They said the houses would be handed over to the people very soon. The ceremony was also attended by provincial president Dr Iqbal Khalil. He said water filtration plants would also be set up in Jahangira.
Meanwhile, Sher Rehman was nominated as chairman of Kidmat-i-Mazooran at a meeting on Monday.—Correspondent
PPP leaders join PTI MARDAN, March 14: The PPP city president Moazam Khan Hoti and deputy general secretary Hamayoon Toru along with 30 activists on Monday joined the PTI.
They said PPP local leaders and activists made the decision at a public meeting held at the Hujra of Moazam Khan Hoti where PTI provincial president Asad Qaisar was also present.
Moazam Hoti accused President Zardari of making the PPP hostage and not taking senior party leaders into confidence while making important decisions.—Correspondent
Minor offloaded PESHAWAR, March 14: FIA immigration staff on Monday off loaded a UAE-bound passenger allegedly for illegally increasing his age in travel documents.
A source in the immigration staff of Peshawar airport said a passenger Akhtar Ali of Mardan had showed his age 18 years in the passport and CNIC but his actual age was about 12 and the preparation for under age was totally illegal.
The passenger, he said was on way to Sharjah via Shaheen Airlines on an employment visa, who was off loaded and handed over to the passport cell for further interrogation to ascertain as to who were involved in his documents.—Bureau Report
Skiing camp PESHAWAR, March 14: Pioneer Ski School Swat with the help of Pak Army has organised Peace Ski Gala 2011 training camp at Malam Jabba.
Chief instructor of the school Mateeullah Khan told Dawn on telephone on Monday a training camp had been organised from Monday which would continue till March 20.
The basic purpose of the sports gala, he said was to boost peace development measures in the violence-hit district. He said all the ski lovers and enthusiasts were welcomed to attend the training camp.—Bureau Report
