THIS is apropos of a news item, ‘Govt buys luxury cars despite flood ravages’ (March 7). The Governor and the Chief Minister of Sindh have spent millions of rupees on the purchase of luxury vehicles which reflects the sorry state of political affairs.

This, while the country is still reeling under the effects of last year’s floods, compelling thousands of affected families to live in makeshift houses on rationed food. The damaged river dykes have still not been repaired for want of funds.

The decision of the provincial authorities to spend taxpayers’ money to maintain their high lifestyle is shocking.

Instead of becoming role models they are wasting public money on buying luxuries for themselves.

Sindh doesn’t need luxury cars for its leaders rather it badly needs funds for the restoration of flood-devastated families and the river dykes before the next monsoon starts.

Furthermore, buying luxury cars will send the wrong signal to donor agencies that have been extending monetary assistance for the rehabilitation of people affected by floods.
