Little enthusiasm in Swabi

Published October 11, 2002

SWABI, Oct 10: People showed very little enthusiasm in exercising their right to vote on the polling day on Thursday.

In the first one hour, only a few voters turned up, but polling picked up gradually. No major untoward incident wa s reported from anywhere.

As per information collected from various polling stations the turnout would not be more than 20 per cent.

The human rights groups and the members of local NGOs, who also monitored the election, observed that the turnout was much lower than it had been during the local government elections in 2001.—Correspondent
