Woman takes cupboard for ballot box

Published October 11, 2002

LAHORE, Oct 10: Lack of a campaign to educate voters was all too obvious when a woman cast her vote in a cupboard instead of the ballot box at a polling station in Central Model School here on Thursday.

The woman, identified as Mrs Zahid, took her ballot paper to a polling booth only to return soon after and complain to the presiding officer that there was no stamp inside the booth.

The officer gave her the stamp. The woman again went inside the booth and handed over the stamp to the officer on her return.

The officer asked her as to where was her ballot paper. The woman pointed to a cupboard placed in a corner and said: “Ihave inserted my ballot paper in that.” — Asif Shahzad
