Four killed in separate incidents

ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: Four persons were killed and a woman was shot and injured in separate incidents in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Wednesday.

According to the police, a policeman died after being run over by a pick-up van in Kahuta.

Mohammad Amir, an ASI, was impounding vehicles for election duty when a pick-up driver knocked him down as he tried to stop the vehicle.

In another incident, a labourer, identified as Pirzada Shah, was shot dead by his rivals in Sihala on Tuesday night.

Zareen Shah, the uncle of the victim, lodged an FIR with Sihala police, saying that Pirzada was in his house when someone knocked at the door. As he opened the door, Mohammad Yaqoob and three other persons entered the house and killed him.

An unidentified cyclist was run over by a speeding car in I- 9 police area on Tuesday night, police said.

Similarly, an unidentified pedestrian was run over by a vehicle near Faizabad. The driver managed to escape from the scene. Meanwhile, three robbers entered the house of Adil Iqbal on Misryal Road on Wednesday and held the inmates at gunpoint. The robbers tied the hostages with a rope and threatened them of dire consequences if they did not hand over cash and gold ornaments.

When Abida Iqbal, mother of Adil, screamed for help, one of the robbers shot and injured her.

On hearing her screams, some neighbours rushed to rescue the family and overpowered one of the culprits. Two of the robbers managed to escape from the scene.
