PESHAWAR, Oct 8: The political authorities in Khyber Agency have arrested a tribesman in connection with firing on a Cessna aircraft in which a co-pilot of the plane was killed on Monday.

Assistant Political Agent (APA) Bara tehsil Jamaluddin told Dawn by telephone on Tuesday that a suspect was arrested while the scope of investigations had been widened to detect the real culprits.

The official, however, refused to disclose the name of the arrested person and said that the law enforcement agencies would take further action soon after general elections.

He said that keeping in view the election atmosphere the administration would not take such action which could cause further disturbance in the area.

A spokesman for the provincial secretary Home and Tribal Affairs Department said that directives had been issued to the agency administration to take action under the territorial responsibility and arrest the responsible persons immediately.

The Lahore Flying Club’s Cessna aircraft was attacked when the plane was dropping leaflets over a public meeting in Bara, Khyber Agency, some 10 km from Peshawar as a result the co-pilot Ahmad Israr was killed.
