HARIPUR, Feb 24: A case was registered against ANP MPA and chairman of local District Development Advisory Committee, Gohar Nawaz Khan, here on Thursday for allegedly thrashing a TMA employee and interfering in official work.

After the incident, TMA employees observed complete strike against the attitude of MPA and later resumed their duties when a case was registered against the MPA. However, no arrest was made reported till filing of this report.

Sheikh Amjad, tehsil officer infrastructure, had through a written complaint stated that he was busy in his official work when DDAC chairman and MPA Gohar Nawaz Khan came along with his guards and forced him to promote certain TMA employees.

Upon his refusal, the MPA and his guards thrashed him publicly and used abusive language. On his complaint, the city police registered a criminal case against MPA Gohar Nawaz Khan under section 186/34 of the PPC for beating the official and interfering in official work.

The TMA employees on the other hand went on strike for indefinite period suspending all the municipal services across the district. They also locked the offices of TMA Haripur. However, after the registration of FIR, the employees resumed their duties later in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, MPA Gohar Nawaz Khan denied the charges and said that the officer was involved in misconduct and was unlawfully interfering in the promotion of TMA employees. He said that the promotion of over 12 workers was due for the last several months but the official was reluctant to proceed over the matter for unknown reasons.

Gohar Nawaz Khan was elected from PF 52 Haripur III during December 2008 by-election after his brother and former provincial minister Akhtar Nawaz Khan was gunned down in October the same year.
