ISLAMABAD: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Babar Awan said on Tuesday that the government would welcome any suggestion to ensure good governance and promote corruption-free culture in the country.
He was speaking on a resolution moved by Muhammad Pervaiz Malik in the National Assembly. Pervaiz Malik said in his resolution that the government should take steps to ensure good governance and promote corruption-free culture in all the Federal Government institutions.
Babar Awan said that the government had no objection to debate the issue but “as the National Assembly represents all the federating units, the provincial governments and other concerned should also be included in the resolution. Let us discuss good governance and let us do it. But it should not mean including some parts and excluding others.”
He suggested that the resolution should be amended as “all the federating units” instead of “all the Federal Government institutions.”
“We will not talk specifically about one government. We will speak about the federation of Pakistan that covers everybody,” he added.
The minister said that any talk about the elimination of corruption should be objective. “Elimination of the corruption is the need of people. While talking about it we should be generalized and not partisan,” he said.
Speaker of the National Assembly Fedmida Mirza in her ruling said that as there was no difference of opinion about elimination of the corruption, the wording of the resolution should be changed.
Pervaiz Malik agreed and said that he wanted to see the menace of corruption eliminated as it was hurting the repute of the country. – APP
