DERA GHAZI KHAN, Feb 14: Candidates have demanded deployment of Rangers for by-election in NA-172 on polling day (March 24).

Aspirants for NA-172 -- Shabbir Ahmad Leghari of PPP and Awais Ahmad Leghari of PML-Q have written separately to the Election Commission of Pakistan that the charged atmosphere of the constituency necessitated deployment of Rangers. PML-N has fielded Dr. Hafiz Abdul Karim. The seat had fallen vacant owing to the death of Farooq Ahmed Leghari.

NA-172 comprises tribal and settled areas. In tribal area, Border Military Police has been entrusted with the task of law and order.
