SANTIAGO: A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck off the coast of Chile on Sunday at a depth of 15.8 miles (25 km), the United States Geological Survey said.

The quake, which was originally reported as a magnitude 6.4, struck 60 miles (97 km) west of Talca, Chile, the USGS said.

Chile’s state emergency agency Onemi said there were no reports of any damage.

“No destructive widespread tsunami threat exists based on historical earthquake and tsunami data,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

Earlier on Sunday tremors measuring magnitude 6 and magnitude 5.8 struck 16 miles (25 km) northeast of Concepcion, Chile. The larger one was 8.3 (13 km) miles deep, the USGS said.
