i am a lawyer myself and have been in the UK for further legal education (LLM). It is great to see female lawyers working in the field. they are needed the same way as female docotrs. I think she is in Parda (hijab) why she says she do not do parda while she has very decent clothes and chadar, this is what we need from a decent female and she has got all these things. Probably she is criticised for not hiding her face, but that is a tradition not a very strict requiremnet. why doesn't she tell the people the she has been in parda. our people are hypocrate, all those men who want her to hide her face will be the ones who will be staring at her, will be stalking (chasing) her in the way to andf from courts. why someone does not question these so called Badmash and Tekadars of culture. and these men mostly criticised other women but can't see faults in their own homes and thus are part of prolem with out becoming part of the solution. however I will also say that instead of removing parda and be proud of working without parda, she must remeber she is a muslim and and a lawyer , her job is to work as a lawyer, which can also be done in parda and even in the UK muslim female observe parda, she need to keeep a balance. she must be proud on the fact that she is a lawyer and not a lawyer without Parda. I would also recommed that in a city like mardan, it is better to observe parda it will convince the people even the hardcore that female can come to legal profession while observing parda on the one side and on the other side it will keep her safe from unwanted criticism and confrontation. The additional benefits of Parda include inhaling less carbon and dust. Well done Farzana, but be proud on being a lawyer not a lawyer without a parda. A lawyer need not to ne necessarily in parda but a muslim female will look much graceful in parda especially in a city like Mardan which is under the attacks of extrememist and enemies of Islam and Pakistan. This experience has definitely opened my eye about the way Pakistani view the society that is against the norm. I can’t imagine how she is being treated harshly by her peers just because she does not fit in with their standards.

Its nice to see a lady in a noble profession of great responsibility from a region where education is rare and females are living under too many ristrictions. I hope she will bring all her abilities in use to help the oppressd and deprived people, specially for women who are unable to rise their voice against the violence of their rights due to ignorence and social ristrictions, as in our culture women hesitate from expressing their problems with male legal professionals and this is also observed in all other fields of life. So in these conditions she is not less than any blessing and hope for a better change in suppressed culture. I wish her good luck may Allah keep her safe and on right path,as regard to the issue of Parda I would like to say neither Hijab creates any obstruction in the way of prosperity nor it causes any restriction in the access of rights and justice so I hope she will easily make her place to play her positive role in the society and people of her localty will also give her due honor as this is the demand of islam and the part of their customs too ...

Against the norm? There are plenty of women lawyers, doctors, engineers, and teachers in Pakistan. The writer probably meant against the norm in Mardan, but it should have been mentioned more explicitly. It is clear from many of the comments that it confused even the Pakistanis, the non-Pakistanis will be confused even more.

Keep up the good work, this is strange people think in a way. She is dressing modestly and covering herself, people in many muslim coutries are wearing head scarfs and working. I would not comment on complete covering but how she is wearing is not against the Muslim Image. Keep up the good work, hope people shall get educated and a bit tolerant in future.
