LARKANA, Oct 5: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has predicted that the middle class will lead a revolution in Sindh and the people will witness positive change soon.

Speaking at a public meeting here on late Friday night on telephone from London, he severely criticized the feudal lords, who never stood by the poor and always pursued their interests.

Beginning his emotionally charged speech with a couplet of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, he talked of Sindh’s suffering in terms of water shortage and improper share in the National Finance Commission award.

Hussain warned: “If Sindh remains denied of its rights, its elected representatives will march to the United Nations to register their protest at the international level.”

“We do not want disintegration of the country,” he insisted, adding that the need of the hour was to strengthen the provinces as only strong provinces could strengthen federation.

He recalled that the Pakistan People’s Party leaders opted to remain off the scene when its leader Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was hanged but the party workers protested and were jailed and whipped for it.

“If the right to rule is given to the MQM, it will catch hold of the killers of Mir Murtaza Bhutto, he claimed before criticizing PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto for “still keeping mum over the issue”.

He termed it a good omen that the middle and lower-middle class Sindhis were joining the MQM and added that the growing Sindhi-Muhajir relationship had worried establishment, which he accused of distancing the two communities.

Earlier, Riaz Kanasro, Mohammed Bakhsh Solangi, Ubaidullah Lolai (the MQM candidates from Larkana and Dadu) and Abdul Khaliq Baloch spoke at the well-organized election meeting amidst tight security arrangements.
