ISLAMABAD: Former captain Moin Khan believes Shahid Afridi should be retained as captain for the World Cup after leading Pakistan to its first one-day series win in over two years.

Pakistan is the only country among the 14 participating teams which has not yet named its captain for the World Cup, beginning Feb. 19.

Afridi led Pakistan to a 41-run win in the fifth one-day international against New Zealand on Thursday for a decisive 3-1 lead in the six-match series.

Khan says Afridi “deserves to get the World Cup captaincy as a reward” because it was Pakistan's first one-day series win since beating the West Indies in Nov. 2008.

Pakistan Cricket Board is likely to announce the World Cup captain on Friday.
