LAHORE, Jan 29: Raymond Davis has no diplomatic immunity and he will be treated as per law of the land, a prosecution official said here on Saturday.

“He committed the crime in his individual capacity while moving on the roads without security and without informing law enforcement agencies,” Punjab Deputy Prosecutor General Rana Bakhtiar told Dawn on phone on Saturday night. Bakhtiar rejected US Embassy's statement that Davis was eligible for immunity. “As Davis has told investigators that he is working for the US consulate in Lahore as technical adviser and he killed two men in self-defence, how can be diplomatic immunity claimed in such circumstances?” he asked.

The prosecutor said any foreigner involved in any crime could not get immunity under any circumstances.

Talking about Davis' six-day remand granted by the judicial magistrate in Cantonment area on Friday, Bakhtiar said police would now produce the accused in the court on February 3. “It's up to police officials to decide if they should seek further physical remand of the accused from the court or not,” official said.

He said an investigation team of the police department had recovered a weapon and bullets from the accused. He said US officials in the Lahore consulate and Islamabad embassy were not cooperating with the police team looking into the case.
