FAISALABAD, Oct 4: President Gen Pervez Musharraf inaugurated the Faisalabad-Lahore dual carriageway project at Khurrianwala about 14km from here on Friday.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, he said the carriageway would be constructed on a Built Operate Transfer (BOT) basis at a cost of Rs4 billion.

He said the national highways were being doubled. The Indus Highway would be constructed around all major cities. Highways and main roads of international standard would be constructed in the Northern Areas, especially in Chitral, Kaghan and Skardu.

Talking about the railways, the president said the track from Karachi to Peshawar was also being doubled and modernized. Trains would travel on these tracks at a speed of 140 to 150km per hour after completion of the project, he added.
