FAISALABAD, Sept 30: District Nazim Zahid Nazir has started holding election meetings and door-to-door campaigns in both rural and urban areas in the district in favour of PML-QA nominees.

The election commission had issued retrained orders barring Nazim and Naib Nazimeen of tehsil and district governments for participating in the election meetings.

The EC had also asked them to supervise election arrangements according to rules and prohibited them for pressurizing the people to vote in favour of any candidate.

Setting aside all these directives, the district Nazim during the last few days held a number of meetings in different parts of the district along with PML-QA candidates and announced his full support. He also asked the people to vote for PML-QA candidates.

Mr Nazir is frequently attending meetings in the village of NA-77 where his younger brother Asim Nazir is contesting elections on the PML-QA ticket. Nominees of the PPP, PML-N and MMA allege that UC Nazimeen and notables of area are also being harassed and pressurized to launch the election campaign of PML-QA candidate.

They are also being lured that packages of developmental works will be initiated in their areas in response to their support.

On Sunday night, Nazir attended an election meeting in Chak 439-GB of Samundri tehsil along with the PML-QA candidate for NA-79, Safdar Shakir, and for its PA seats, Khalid Nabi advocate and Ch Arif Mehmood Gill.

The district Nazim pledged the people for the provision of maximum funds for the uplift of their areas if they cast votes in favour of PML-QA nominees. He also promised to construct the building of a school, a dispensary, and a veterinary hospital in Chaks 422, 461 and 462.

At the district government secretariat, PML-QA nominees are seen asking the employees for different nature of works in selected areas of their respective constituencies.

Some employees on the condition of anonymity told Dawn that they had been directed by the zila Nazim to comply with the orders of PML-QA candidates and provide them maximum help. Official funds and machinery were also being used for launching election campaign of PML-QA nominees especially in the areas of NA-75, NA-77, NA-78, NA-79, NA-81, they said

Nazimeen of tehsil municipal administrations, Tandlianwala, Jaranwala and Chak Jhumra have also launched election campaigns of PML-QA nominees.

Mushtaq Ali Cheema, a PML-QA nominee for NA-83, is the brother of City Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema, while Raja Ali Khan Baloch, PML-QA candidate for NA-78, is the uncle of Tandlianwala tehsil Nazim Gohar Ali Khan Baloch.
