ISLAMABAD, Jan 3: An inspector of the capital police was dismissed from service for the second time on Monday for taking bribe from an accused in a kidnapping for ransom case, sources told Dawn .
When the inspector was dismissed in October 2009 on the charge of taking money for releasing a person – MM – involved in kidnapping a property dealer, he went to Federal Service Tribunal (FST), which ordered a fresh inquiry. The second inquiry also found him guilty. The inspector working as acting deputy superintendent of police in Crime Investigation Department (CID) was found guilty in 2009 of taking Rs505,000 from MM.
The inspector had played a central role in tracing and arresting MM and recovering the kidnapped man, Amir Shahzad Cheema, a property dealer. Cheema, 28, was kidnapped from F-11 Markaz on September 15, 2009. Probe revealed that Cheema was kidnapped after he failed to pay huge amount of money to MM in a business deal. MM and his accomplices were arrested in October 2009 as Cheema was freed.
Shortly afterwards a senior police officer received an SMS accusing the inspector of taking Rs506,000 for the release of MM. The probe conducted on the order of FST reveled that Rs506,000 were withdrawn from the bank account of MM, when he was in the custody of CID.
It revealed that the driver of the accused delivered the money to the inspector's subordinate for the release. The inquiry report was submitted in the office of Inspector General of Police (IGP) with recommendation of dismissal.
The IGP ordered the inspector's dismissal. However, he has right to appeal against the findings of the second inquiry in FST.
