KARACHI, Sept 28: A review subcommittee has been formed for detailed and expert consideration of proposals received for operating large-size air-conditioned buses in Karachi by the private sector under the Urban Transport Scheme.

To be headed by EDO Transport Dr Tahir Soomro, the subcommittee will consist of city Nazim’s representative Saleem Azhar, chairman Transport Committee, Hafiz Ahmed Ali and a representative of the city government’s finance department.

The committee will submit its suggestions to the Urban Transport Management Committee by September 30 for implementation of the project.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the Urban Transport Management Committee which met here under the chairmanship of DCO Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha.

It was decided that the subcommittee would submit its proposals with regard to fixation of fares on different routes and provision of depots to the private sector by the government. The subcommittee will also categorize the proposals by bus submitted to the city government’s transport department. In this regard the DCO Karachi directed the committee to keep in view the financial capacity of the bus companies, their management capabilities and reputation.—APP
