Bangladesh contingent leaves for Korea

DHAKA, Sept 26: Bangladesh’s sports stars left for the Asian Games in Busan Thursday with the dream of winning at least a silver medal in the lesser known sport of kabaddi.

Bangladesh won the silver in the essentially rural Indian sport at the 1990 and 1994 Asiad but had to settle for a bronze at the last edition in Bangkok four years ago.

Bangladesh’s kabaddi captain Badsha Mia, who will also carry the national flag at Sunday’s opening ceremony in Busan, was optimistic of his team’s chances.

“We are well prepared and hopefully will bring glory to the country,” said Badsha.

The 87-member Bangladesh contingent will take part in nine disciplines: football, hockey, athletics, swimming, weightlifting, boxing, shooting, kabaddi and wrestling.—AFP
