Electoral rules being ‘violated’

FAISALABAD, Sept 26: PML-N leaders and candidates for national and provincial assemblies have accused City Nazim of using official resources and manpower for the election campaign of his brother in NA-83.

Speaking at a news conference here on Thursday, PML-N candidate Mian Irfan for NA-83, city PML-N president Khawaja Mohammad Islam and ex-MPA Rana Muhammad Afzal, a candidate for PP-66, alleged the TMA funds and manpower were being used for mustering support of PML-QA candidate Mushtaq Cheema.

They blamed the election commission had become a silent spectator for no action had so far been taken against the violators of electoral rules despite repeated complaints made through phones, faxes and telegrams.

Posters and banners of opponent candidates of PML-QA nominees were being removed by TMA employees in NA-83, they said. The PML-N workers and leaders, they alleged, were also being threatened by the police.

Special teams comprising TMA employees and PML-QA workers had been constituted to create hurdles in holding corner meetings and processions in NA-83 at the behest of City Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema, they said.

Offices of Nazimeen and Naibs of union councils had been converted into election camps of PML-QA nominees which was an open violation of electoral rules, they further alleged.
