KARACHI, Sept 26: Chairman Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Dr Tahirul Qadri, said on Thursday that his party would eliminate inhuman customs such as karokari, vanni, honour killing and marriage with the Quran, from the society.

He was addressing a corner meeting at Malir. He said that effective legislation would ensure that honour and dignity of women was restored and all primitive practices were eliminated.

He said the PAT would allocate 15 per cent of the GDP for education, specially for setting up vocational training centres for women and girls.

He said a women quota of 25 per cent would be ensured in all public sector organisations and the age limit for employment purposes would be increased.

Dr Qadri said that women workers would get all facilities prescribed under ILO recommendations.

Talking about the electoral role of women, the PAT chief said that their participation in legislation would be ensured through constitutional amendments.

Dr Qadri said that micro finance societies would be created for financial independence of women, besides shelter houses for needy women.

Earlier, a women candidate of the PAT, Imtiaz Javed, said that family life had been severely affected due to economic insecurity of women. She said that women had been neglected by previous governments and it was now necessary that they should play their role shoulder to shoulder with men for economic betterment.

Later, the PAT chief expressed condolences with the bereaved families the Christians killed in the terrorist attack in Rimpa Plaza on Wednesday. He demanded arrest of those responsible.—APP
