KARACHI, Dec 11: A 20-year-old man was killed and three other people were injured after members of two families exchanged fire over a marriage dispute in Malir Cantonment area.

According to police, the son of George Masih had proposed to the daughter of Tasleem Nawaz, but both the families opposed the proposal.

The two families live in Bilawal Jokhio Goth, Scheme 33.

“Since they (the two families) follow different religions, the elders on both sides objected to the proposal. The situation turned ugly when the boy and the girl insisted on court marriage, leading first to a brawl and then to an exchange of fire,” the SHO of Malir Cantt police station said.

The exchange claimed the life of Waqas, a relative of Tasleem Nawaz. George Farzeen Masih (40), the wife of George, their 20-year-old daughter Moon and an eight-year-old son, Rahul, got bullet wounds. They were taken to the Jinnah Hospital.

“There has been no arrest as most of the people involved in the shootout have escaped. However, we have detained three suspects and are questioning them,” the SHO added.
