LAHORE: The Minister for Sports, Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani will confer the Z.A Bhutto Sportsman of the Year Award on wrestler Muhammad Umar, today at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad.

The award is conferred in recognition of Umar's outstanding performances and meritorious services in the game of wrestling. He is considered to be one of the best wrestlers in the country to have competed at the international level.

Umar's most notable achievement came at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Canada where he won bronze in the Men's Lightweight class. He also won gold at this year's South Asian Games in Bangladesh where he competed in the 96kg category.

The ceremony to honour the wrestler will also be attended by Secretary Sports and DG Pakistan Sports Board.

Wrestling in Pakistan has witnessed a revival of sorts after strong performances by Azhar Hussain and Muhammad Inam at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
