LAHORE, Sept 24: A small card of five events has been laid out for the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse Wednesday.
The events are made up of ordinary runners, comprising lower divisions of class VII to be run over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres.
In all, 54 contestants will be vying in the five races contests, barring last-minute withdrawals.
The feature event, Bahawalpur Plate, a class VII division V handicap race has the largest field of 15 runners. It is packed with sprinters, who relish the distance. Of them six are those appearing consistently on the board, hence are in chance.
They are: Moment To Moment, Fiji, Raj Ruks, Royal Man, Fifty Six Fifty Six and Burrat Again.
But before they are put under a microscopic analysis, it is worth highlighting their past performances. Moment To Moment ran a good race to be third behind Decent Fellow and Al Jarrar on Sept 15, Fiji has won two races and placed third in as many previous outings, Raj Ruks has appeared on the board on his last outing on Sept 8 while Royal Man, Fifty Six Fifty Six and Burrat Again had finished second, third and fourth, respectively in the same race last time out. They all should make it a closely contested race.
Four contestants seems to be in the running for the fourth and supporting event, the Bahawalpur Plate class VII division VI. They are: Native Force, Sun Of Gold, Irslan and Jonty Road.
This quartet can be reduced to half on their previous performances, namely, Native Force and Sun Of Gold. However, if blood-line matters Native Force should outrun others.
Star ‘N’ Stripes ran a good race to win from a difficult pocket when tucked in between a bunch of runners a week ago, and will be going all out to make it two in-a-row in the third race. The Warrior, Love Land and Sugar Dady may fight out for lesser remunerative berths.
In the second race Goshie The Great looks a cut above in class and should make amends for last outing’s defeat. Goshie The great was beaten closely by Star ‘N’ Stripes last Wednesday.
The opener is the lowest division of class VII. By virtue of third placing in last outing Rocket Field seems to have an edge over-the rest seven, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.
The first race will be held at 3pm.
