BAHAWALNAGAR, Sept 24: The railways has cut the electricity supply to its employees’ colony here, which comprises 535 houses.

The railway authorities claim that supply of electricity costs the department hundreds of thousands of rupees. They want inhabitants of the colony to get electricity connections from Wapda that not only charges more but also demands some proof of tenancy or ownership, which, however, they are not ready to give.

The Wapda-railways stand-off has entered its second week.

Millat Party district president Advocate Arfa Bukhari told this scribe that besides losing the power supply, residents of the area were also suffering from shortage of water and poor sanitary conditions.

Khalid Khokhar, a journalist, said if the department was so desperate in this regard, then it should have issued notices to inhabitants of the colony before taking such an inhuman step.
