KARACHI, Nov 30: A selection board set to hold interviews of five candidates short-listed out of over 100 for the post of a lecturer at the University of Karachi on Tuesday had to put off its proceedings abruptly when a group of students in stormed the meeting room, subjected the staff to threats and forcibly stopped the entire process.

The intruders also misbehaved with the campus security adviser.

According to sources, more than 100 candidates had appeared before the selection board for a test in the morning and five of them had been short-listed. When the board was about to hold interviews of the candidates, a group of activists forcibly broke into the room, harassed the staff and forced the board to stop further recruitment process.

The sources said that an ad hoc teacher backed by the group was among the candidates but could not qualify for an interview.

They said that the activists also forced KU staff to close all administrative offices.

No KU official was available for comments.
