MULTAN, Sept 23: All the sub-divisional officers (SDOs) of the Mepco’s Arifwala division have been suspended from service while the meter readers transferred to Sahiwal division for poor performance.

According to a press release issued here on Monday, the decision was taken by Mepco Chief Executive Brig Abbas Ali Khan while presiding over a meeting of superintending engineers and directors of the company.

The Pakpattan district officials of Mepco’s Arifwala division were penalized for failure to check line losses and recovery of outstanding dues besides their overall unsatisfactory performance in execution of their duties.

The meeting decided that the connections of the government departments be severed on expiry of the notices served to them for the payment of their respective outstanding dues.

Directing the staff to kick off campaign against power thieves and defaulters, the Mepco chief warned that any official found guilty of overbilling would be sacked. A meter reader found recording ‘irresponsible’ reading three times would be fired.

The meeting decided that the schemes of rural electrification would be continued throughout the Mepco jurisdiction. It was also decided to electrify a village on priority basis if its 80 per cent residents deposit their demand notes.
