PESHAWAR, Sept 23: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said that the mismanagement and ineffective implementation of rules is the root-cause of the traffic problems in the Cantonment and the city, and directed the authorities to prepare a concrete plan and adopt a joint strategy to improve the situation.

Presiding over a meeting here on Monday, the governor said that the concerned agencies were not taking interest in their job as a result of which pedestrians had been affected on the one hand and a large number of vehicles had been added to the public transport on the other.

This state of affairs, he said, had not only caused an unbearable congestion on roads but had also increased pollution.

Expressing concern over the non-implementation of building control rules and growing encroachments, he said that a strict action was needed to improve the working of the concerned agencies.

He appreciated the decision of the Cantonment authorities for shifting of an illegal bus-stand from near the government printing press along golf course. He agreed with a proposal to divert buses plying from and to Warsak, to the road running outside the F.G. Colony at Hassan Garhi.
