RAWALPINDI, Nov 11: Police have arrested Maulana Abdul Ghaffar, a leader of Jamiat-i-Ulema-i-Islam (JUI), Dawn has learnt on Sunday.

The police said the JUI leader had been arrested on charges of violating Section 144 and inciting people against the government.

He was arrested at Bilal Mosque near railway station. The JUI leader has been sent to Adiala Jail, the police said.

Meanwhile, about 200 activists of Afghan Defence Council (ADC) held a protest demonstration against the government’s decision to support the US in its war against terrorism.

The protesters, led by Qari Abdul Rashid, a local ADC leader, marched on Murree Road between Dhoke Kala Khan and Shamsabad and raised anti-government and pro-Taliban slogans.

Speaking on the occasion, Qari Abdul Rasheed criticized the government’s Afghan policy. He asked the government to release the ADC workers, who were arrested during the countrywide strike on Friday.
