PESHAWAR, Sept 23: The students of Gomal Medical College and Saidu Medical College have demanded of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council to recognize their institutions.

They said that they were suffering from a decision of the PMDC which had declined to recognize their colleges as they lacked certain facilities. They said it was the job of the government to provide all those facilities at the institutions which were necessary for recognition.

Talking to journalists at the press club, the leaders of the GMC’s Joint Action Committee, Rafiq Mohammed, Naimatullah and Imtiaz Khan maintained that all the students, including those who paid Rs200,000 annually under the self-finance scheme, had followed the rules at the time of admission.

They suggested that the government may give temporary admission to the affected students to other colleges in the province.

They said that they had met the NWFP health minister and held a demonstration in front of the Chief Executive’s Secretariat in Islamabad, and added that they would try to meet Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah.

The students of the two colleges have been boycotting classes since Sept 15.

Earlier, the affected students protested in front of the Governor’s House and raised anti-government slogans.
